This is an absolutely immaculate example of a Wolseley 1300; the body is completely rust-free, with excellent chromework all round – grille, bumpers, door handles, etc. All the wheel arches are perfectly free of any sign of corrosion. The wheels have been shot-blasted and powder-coated so they look pristine. To our mind, this particular powder blue colour perfectly complements the style and character of the car and sets off the quality of the chromework. As can be seen in the images, its underside is similarly rock solid.
This really is one of the best Wolseley 1300s we have seen to date, and no doubt one of the best ones to have come onto the market in the last ten years.
The car’s interior is also immaculate, as the photos show, especially the excellent roof lining and carpets, and handsomely contoured seats. We agree with the original brochure’s desription: “The kind of elegance that never dates.”
The car is powered by a very smooth-running 1275cc engine and 4-speed all-synchromesh gearbox, and in keeping with the bodywork they are housed in a very clean engine bay. The gearbox delivers a strong, smooth gearchange. And the driving experience is first-class too – everything feels very tight when driving. The car cruises comfortably at 60mph+, thus keeps up with modern traffic with ease, and is even more fun on the open road.
At the time of production, Wolseley proudly declared that “technically speaking, this is one of the most advanced cars on the road.” For instance the “rust-resistant protective coating, evenly applied and electrostatically sealed into every nook and cranny” which has kept this vehicle in such magnificent order almost fifty years later. Other modern features taken for granted nowadays include front disc brakes and independent suspension, headlight flasher, self-cancelling indicators, and warning lamps to indicate low oil pressure and headlamp high beam.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable practical classic for everyday use, yet will attract plenty of admirers at any classic car fair.
This outstanding Wolseley has covered just 56,000 miles in its life and has an MoT certificate valid until October 2020.
Because of the superb condition of the car, and because it’s such a rare car, we expect demand for this beautiful and yet perfectly functional car to be very high. For that reason we strongly recommend interested parties contact us by phone rather than email.
