This 1968 Morris Minor is in absolutely first-rate order and transforms you back in time whenever you climb into it. In case of doubt, the car is accompanied by an enormous history file documenting how well it has been maintained – curated even – over the years. Everything about it is unobjectionable – the Trafalgar Blue bodywork has a deep glossy shine to it and all the chrome work and trim are in similar fine fettle. Nothing feels old about the car. The interior is impeccable and, incredibly, is still original, with the deep seats just as welcoming and comfortable as ever.

The uncluttered dashboard also has the same unblemished glossy sheen as the exterior, and the roof lining, door cards, and wooden gear knob all combine to make riding inside a wonderful journey back to a time when cars were designed to feel homely, and to look good, and to last. The Morris Minor, after all, was designed by the same Isogonics who went on to craft the Mini into a style icon, and Morris Minors were regarded as highly reliable in their time, something which has greatly helped their popularity right through to the present day.

Under that unmistakeable hood the engine and running gear are in the same outstanding order. The 1000cc engine and four-speed manual gearbox perform marvellously, the car really does have a cracking engine and gearbox, good solid acceleration, smooth running at a speed perfectly adequate for keeping up with modern traffic, without any rattles, squeaks or knocks to spoil the party. It’s just a stunning car, a beautifully maintained and clearly cherished example which has a special place in British motoring history.
