This BMW 316 is in timewarp condition, with only one former keeper and full service history. The interior is incredible, it’s like it just left the factory. The driver’s seat is often threadbare on the bolster, even with the BMW cloth, but with this car there are no signs of wear to the seats whatsoever. It still contains its original BMW floor mats (which also are like new) – remarkable for a car of this age.

Right down to the interior of the glove box and the roof lining, it’s hard to believe this car has ever been driven – an impression reinforced by the brand new tyres all round. And the alloys too are completely unmarked. Being the popular chrome bumper version, this car ticks all the boxes for appearance.

Apart from a few minor stone chips, to be expected in any car of this age, the bodywork is well-nigh immaculate, really emphasizing the suave lines of the brilliant BMW styling of the era.

Under the bonnet is a squeaky clean 1800cc 4-cylinder engine, and as anybody who has driven one of these will know, the engine is exceptionally well-built and reliable. It drives really well, responsive and with good acceleration without straining at all. As with many BMWs, the manual gearbox (5-speed) enhances the driving experience greatly, and this one is no exception, giving smooth, precise and instant gear changes.

Inside the interior is beautiful, the seats supportive and comfortable, everything so new-looking – the ashtrays have clearly never been used – and the classic 1980s functional but stylish instrument panel as well as the top-notch mechanicals all help to give a truly first-class driving experience.
