VIN Chassis No.: BABFAG494140
Owned from new by husband and wife and having covered only 47,000 miles from new, these iconic Mark 5s were so well-known in the 1980s that everyone wanted one when the new facelift model was launched.
The Cortina in the 1980s was the car that everybody seemed to have if they could afford one – from reps to family cars – in its time it was far and away the best-selling car in the UK. They were famously reliable and these Mark 5s were very good-looking cars, spacious, and powered by Ford’s trusty Pinto engine.
This car features the solid 1600cc engine and is a rare automatic, and together these make driving the car effortless. The cleanliness of the engine bay is a tribute to the love and attention lavished on it. The engine runs very cleanly and quietly and clearly has many, many years of motoring left in her. The interior is in superb condition and gives a very comfortable ride, and there are no knocks or rattles to suggest anything is amiss on the car.
The bodywork too is in fine order, sharp, solid arches, and the trim and everything else are as they should be. The controls are nicely laid out and the layout of the centre console was always a much-loved feature.
The wheels have been professionally refurbished, in keeping with the overall character of this very well-preserved car.
Obviously this Cortina will have no problem at all keeping up with modern traffic, and it doesn’t look out of place on today’s thanks to the classic good looks of the original Cortina design. And when people see it, they feel like they’re right back in the 1980s with Madonna, Wham, yuppies, and that innocent, glad-to-be-alive feeling that was everywhere.
